A New Home: Emily’s Story

Emily Post came to Camp Cho-Yeh for the first time as a staff member in 2018. She had been a camper for most of her life in her home state of Florida, but coming to Cho-Yeh was a totally new experience for her.

“I just felt God calling me to try something new and unfamiliar. I found Cho-Yeh and really liked their mission, so I applied and ended up spending the summer there. Now I’m coming back for my fourth year on staff.”

While going to Camp for the first time can be exciting, it can also be nerve-racking. New staff like Emily often wonder if they will fit in and what living in this new environment will be like. Soon enough, however, Cho-Yeh goes from feeling unfamiliar to like a new home.

“I built relationships there like no other. All of the staff are so Christ-centered and encouraging. The supportive community has helped me learn so much about patience and hard work.”

Emily’s supervisors and fellow staff have supported her in her past roles as a counselor and photographer, and she’s looking forward to leading in her new position as the Media Admin this year. In this role, Emily will use the skills that she is learning as she studies strategic communications at Liberty University to keep parents updated on what their campers are doing via social media, as well as work on special projects with Cho-Yeh’s marketing team. Emily is eager to use her skills to show God’s love and to campers, their families, and her fellow staff in new ways.

“I’m so excited to come back this summer. Working side by side with the other staff is so rewarding. We’re constantly checking in with each other so that we can keep pouring out to one another and our campers. It’s so rewarding to support campers as they try new things and lift one another up.”

While adventures at Cho-Yeh often push people out of their comfort zones, the Christ-centered community provides a safe, welcoming place for staff and campers. Everyone at Camp has the chance to build connections, be vulnerable with one another, and grow in Christ together.

“I would encourage other people considering coming to Camp to step out in faith and trust in the Lord. He teaches me new things each summer and always makes Camp an amazing experience.”
