Antoine: World Cup Bonding

Antoine (3 year camper) enjoys playing baseball and soccer, but especially soccer. So of course, watching the World Cup was high on this French-born seventh grader’s summer to-do list. Specifically, Antoine was excited to celebrate France making it to the final for the first time in Antoine’s lifetime. Antoine takes after his Father in his passion for soccer, as Antoine and his family are French and currently live in Switzerland. He has grown up watching the World Cup with his family and watching France compete in the World Cup was a huge priority for Antoine.

However, another event was also pulling at his attention. The friends and fun memories Antoine made at Camp Cho-Yeh the past two summers brought him back to Livingston for his third summer. Antoine first came to camp after being invited by his friend at the international school Antoine was attending in Houston. Since that initial experience, Antoine has created time in his summer to gladly and excitedly make the over eleven-hour flight from Switzerland to come to this special place. Even with the World Cup going on simultaneously, Antoine chose to go across the world from where France was competing to be an Epic camper, experiencing camp for the two weeks.

“I’d rather be here at camp” Antoine said. “Yes, I want to watch the game and see how it goes, but I wouldn’t want to give up coming to Cho-Yeh for it because I am excited about being here at camp during the summer. I’d rather spend these two weeks here and nowhere else because I love this place. Coming to Cho-Yeh has made me become closer to Jesus. It’s changed my life. Cho-Yeh is a really great place to be.”

During Epic weekend on Sunday morning, Antoine got to share his passion for soccer with his cabin, as Epic campers gathered in a meeting hall at camp to watch the World Cup. Antoine excitedly got to cheer on his team to victory in one of his very favorite places, while surrounded by the community he has built throughout his time at Camp Cho-Yeh.

“I felt pride in seeing my team play in the World Cup. This is the first time in my lifetime that France is in the final and I am extremely happy! As if that wasn’t enough, France won the World Cup! And I am here at Cho-Yeh to celebrate.”
