Building Foundations: School Retreats

When St. Thomas Aquinas (STA) High School started dreaming of an off-campus retreat for their students, the logistics seemed overwhelming. They’d never done an overnight camp with their students but they knew the pay off would be monumental, so they looked into location options.

Grover and Q from STA saw the facilities available at Cho-Yeh and knew it was the place for their students. The personal attention they received from the staff at Camp sealed the deal. Once they knew their school was going to have a retreat at Cho-Yeh, they still needed assistance pulling off a retreat of this scale.

That’s where Guy and Amy stepped in. Guy is Cho-Yeh’s Director of retreats and Amy is our reservationist and they went above and beyond for STA. They drove to STA’s campus to meet with their leaders to walk them through the scheduling process. They talked through the logistical questions that Q and Grover had for them.

According to Q, “Other camps will often tell you what they have to offer. Cho-Yeh asked us what we wanted to do and then accomodated us.”

“Aquinas camp” at Cho-Yeh had an overwhelming response amongst their students. Kids were given opportunities to try new things, connect with their classmates and teachers in new ways, and be able to get out into nature.

One of the students said of his time, “This trip wasn’t just to have fun, but to build a foundation of brotherhood between all of us that will not only last us these four years, but forever.”

The STA staff and students that came to Cho-Yeh are thankful for their time here and the lasting impact it has had on their students.
