Our counselors have arrived, staff training is underway, and we are eager to have your camper here this summer!  With camp fast approaching, we want you to know that we are closely watching the reports about the rapid spread of COVID-19, and are disappointed that cases are on the rise in Texas.   Rest assured that we are in close communication with our medical advisors and local health officials as our team continues to adapt our plans to mitigate the risk of exposure at camp.

As always, the safety of our campers and guests is a top priority at Camp Cho-Yeh.  We recognize the threat of exposure is at the highest levels we’ve seen in our region.  In addition to all the modifications we have made to the program already, we are now implementing even more proactive ways to further reduce the risk of exposure.  For example, along with several other measures, we are:

  • Reducing the number of times our campers will have close interaction with other cabins, even those within their own cohort.
  • Building more hand washing stations and continuing to enhance our sanitization procedures.
  • Moving even more of our activities and programs outdoors as much as possible.
  • Increasing the use of masks by our support staff.

In short, we are working hard to provide an excellent camp experience while significantly reducing the risk of a widespread outbreak of COVID-19 at Camp Cho-Yeh.  We have been learning important lessons from other camps and organizations as they have opened up ahead of us.  Of course, we cannot eliminate the risk of exposure or guarantee that some campers won’t get sick, but we are confident in our team’s ability to run a great program in the midst of this pandemic.

We realize that our camp families have a wide variety of opinions and concerns about how to respond to the growing number of COVID-19 cases we’re seeing in the Houston area.  If there are members of your household in the high risk category, and you’d like to discuss options with our staff, please call the office at 936-328-3200.

Even in this new landscape of uncertainty and change, we are convinced that our kids need a chance to get away and have the life-changing experience of camp.  We are committed to consistent and transparent communication with you as we navigate these next few weeks together.  Please join us in praying that the Lord provides a powerful and healthy camp season this summer.

With you, for Him,
