One Interesting fact about me: I have been involved in sports since before I can remember. I have always loved being outside running around. This passion started in 3rd grade when I started playing volleyball. I played volleyball year round and school sports like basketball, soccer, track, and softball throughout the year. I wanted to play volleyball in college but I didn’t focus on it enough to play until January of 2018 when the Arlington Baptist coach reached out to me and ask me to be their setter.
Why did you sign-up for Compass? Because I got my Associates in May, I had no idea what I wanted to get my bachelors in. Instead of wasting money at a big university trying to figure out what I wanted to do, I knew pursuing a stronger relationship with the Lord is something that I’ve always wanted. For a period of time I had to trust that Christ would make His plan known for my life. After talking to my mentor, Jenn Jones, through the pros and cons, we came to the conclusion that it wouldn’t hurt to apply for Compass. Through this process of discernment, God made it so evident that the gap year is what I was supposed to be doing this year.
This time next year what do you want to say about your Gap Year Experience?Throughout these 9 months, I want to not only grow in my faith but I also want to make relationships with people that will last a lifetime. I want to be able to look back and see how mature I became in my relationship with Christ. I already know that in these next nine months, I will make memories that I can look back on the rest of my life. I am so excited to continue to share what God is doing through Compass.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about taking a Gap Year?To someone who is looking into taking a gap year, I would encourage that they 100% do it. You learn so much about life that you don’t get to if you just went to college. Not only are you strengthening your relationship with Christ but you are also learning how to live and work with people that are not like you. You learn what it means to live in a Christ-like community and to serve like we are called to.
