Name:Stacia Johnston
Age: 21
Home town: Corpus Christi
College attended: Del Mar College
Major: Studio Arts
Interesting fact about me: I am an artist and I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. My mother and I like to joke that I held a pencil before I held a fork. Over the years, I have won several art competitions including the 2016 Congressional Art Competition where my painting was hung in the Cannon Tunnel for one year.
Why I signed up for Compass: I joined Compass because it was the opportunity of a lifetime. Before coming here, I had two years of college under my belt, but was left feeling lost and unfulfilled. I did not know what I wanted to do with myself and felt that I had a lack of basic life skills that college does not teach. Compass offers everything that I felt I was missing and then some.
What I want to say about my Gap Year experience this time next year? By this time next year, I hope to look back on this experience as one of the best in my life. I hope to have gained life long friends and priceless knowledge and skills. I also hope that I will have a much deeper relationship with God and a thorough understanding of Christianity and theology.
What I would say to someone looking into taking a Gap Year? To anyone looking at Compass as a potential student, I would highly recommend it. Compass is a wonderful experience that exposes its students to all sorts of activities ranging from working at camp, living in community, theological study, wilderness adventures, and practical skills. It exposes students to all kinds of adventure and learning opportunities that will serve them for years to come.
