Clint Wyllie has been bringing his students from Kingwood United Methodist Church to Cho-Yeh for the past 5 years. Every fall, close to 175 students and adult chaperones converge on Camp Cho-Yeh for their Fall Retreat.
One of the reasons Clint keeps bringing his group back to Cho-Yeh is because of the personalized attention and service he experiences throughout the planning process. The retreat staff at Cho-Yeh go “above and beyond” according to Clint because they do things such as driving an hour to meet and talk through programming schedules in person. Clint also appreciates that, “they are super accommodating on the front end of a retreat and once we are on property there is always someone available if a need arises.” This attention to detail allows Clint to be fully attentive to ministry while on retreat at Cho-Yeh.
The property and facilities at Camp aesthetically provide an “away” feeling so students can truly get unplugged and away from distractions at home and school. The ability to be in nature while only being 50 minutes from home is a huge reason why they keep coming back each fall. The proximity of Cho-Yeh to Houston means that his group can have worship on Friday night instead of losing an entire evening to travel.
The activities are plentiful and ever growing which gives opportunity for Clint’s group to experience new things each year. Clint grew up around camping ministry and the High Ropes course at Cho-Yeh is “unlike anything I have ever seen.” Every year, his students say that Fall Retreat is one of their favorite events and the accommodations and experience that Cho-Yeh provides is a huge contributor to that success.
