Why I Send My Kids To Cho-Yeh

My name is Heather Homan and I have been entrusting my kids to Camp Cho-Yeh for the past 5 summers. We chose Cho-Yeh because of their relationship with our church, FPC Houston, and because we can trust that our children will hear the Gospel unapologetically proclaimed at camp. My husband and I have complete confidence in Cho-Yeh to keep our kids safe and we trust the leadership from the top down. Going to camp each summer gives our children time away from us and has taught them independence and to take more personal responsibility for themselves. They have learned to engage and befriend kids outside of their normal peer group and they have developed confidence in building relationships with a variety of people.

Most importantly, our kids are under the teaching and mentorship of young adults that they can look up to, that speak into their lives in a way that my husband and I can’t. The faith in Jesus that is modeled in the counselors and staff at Cho-Yeh is something I want my children to emulate in their own life. My children are encouraged by someone other than my husband and I to study God’s word and to develop a personal faith in Jesus and that is something that has no price tag.

My children can’t wait for their week at camp each summer.  My daughter would prefer to spend all summer at Cho-Yeh.  For her, it is a very safe place of love, acceptance, and friendship.  As she enters her teen years this coming summer, I am increasingly grateful for a place that encourages her lifelong faith journey.  For my son, it is a week spent outside of his comfort zone, where he is stretched to try new things and break from his normal routine.  He is not always the easiest child, but the counselors have always been so good at talking him through hard things and they never give up on him.  The encouragement he receives from his counselors boosts his confidence in ways that I can’t.  Our youngest is a goofball and he just loves to go to a place that is so much fun. This will be our fifth summer at camp and it just gets better each year for our family.
